{"id":182621,"date":"2015-07-21T18:13:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-21T23:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2015\/07\/21\/oh-please\/"},"modified":"2015-07-21T18:13:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-21T23:13:00","slug":"oh-please","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2015\/07\/21\/oh-please\/","title":{"rendered":"Oh, Please!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The police in the Freddie Gray murder are now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/maryland\/freddie-gray\/bs-md-ci-gray-separate-trial-motions-20150717-story.html\">claiming that their statements were extracted under duress<\/a>, because they felt that their jobs were on the line:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Three of six Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray argued in court filings this week that they provided statements to police investigators under duress because they feared losing their jobs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Two of the officers said that when investigators asked them to provide statements about the circumstances surrounding Gray&#8217;s arrest, they were led to believe they were doing so as witnesses \u2014 not as suspects.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Another said she provided a statement without being advised of her Miranda rights, then was ordered to return five days later to be read her rights and provide another statement.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Now those statements are key evidence in the case. Defense attorneys for Lt. Brian W. Rice, Officer William G. Porter and Sgt. Alicia D.
