margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px;\" width=\"250-\" \/><\/a>It appears that the <i>New York Times<\/i> has finally had enough of right wing publishers manufacturing data for its best seller list, and it&#8217;s first target is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2015\/07\/10\/conservatives_howl_as_ny_times_calls_out_ted_cruz_for_trying_to_cheat_his_way_onto_bestseller_list\/\">the Ted Crux Book A <i>Time For Truth<\/i><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Conservatives are furious at the New York Times for refusing to allow Ted Cruz and his publisher, HarperCollins, to game the system and \u201cearn\u201d his way on to the bestseller list via \u201cstrategic bulk purchases.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/media\/2015\/07\/ny-times-keeps-cruz-off-bestseller-list-210254.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an email to<\/a> Politico\u2019s Dylan Byers, Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy explained why Cruz\u2019s \u201cA Time For Truth\u201d was omitted, noting that the company has \u201cuniform standards that we apply to our best seller list, which includes an analysis of book sales that goes beyond simply the number of books sold.\u201d\u201cIn the case of this book,\u201d she added, \u201cthe overwhelming preponderance of evidence was that sales were limited to strategic bulk purchases.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Conservatives are complaining that \u201cbulk purchases\u201d should still count as sales:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">And while they might have ground to stand on there \u2014 if by \u201cbulk purchases,\u201d the Times meant \u201c10,000 copies purchased to be sold at Walmart\u201d \u2014 but the Times specified that it believes HarperCollins engaged in \u201c<i>strategic<\/i> bulk purchases.\u201d In essence, The Times accused Cruz\u2019s publisher of trying to buy its way onto the bestseller list by having a firm like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.resultsource.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Result Source<\/a> hire thousands of people across America to individually purchase a copy of \u201cA Time For Truth,\u201d in the hope that some of those retailers are on the secret list of booksellers who report their sales to the Times, or that the aggregate purchasers will simply be too high for the Times to ignore.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">In other words, conservatives are upset that HarperCollins got caught trying to rig the system in order to make \u201cA Time For Truth\u201d a bestseller, though that\u2019s not quite how they see it:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wingnut tears are salting my soup as we speak.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that the New York Times has finally had enough of right wing publishers manufacturing data for its best seller list, and it&#8217;s first target is the Ted Crux Book A Time For Truth: Conservatives are furious at the New York Times for refusing to allow Ted Cruz and his publisher, HarperCollins, to game &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1064,978,1193,1019],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-182646","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-media","category-politics","category-publishing","category-schadenfreude"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/182646"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=182646"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/182646\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=182646"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=182646"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=182646"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
