{"id":182825,"date":"2015-05-30T19:53:00","date_gmt":"2015-05-31T00:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2015\/05\/30\/omalley-is-in\/"},"modified":"2015-05-30T19:53:00","modified_gmt":"2015-05-31T00:53:00","slug":"omalley-is-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2015\/05\/30\/omalley-is-in\/","title":{"rendered":"O\u2019Malley is In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Martin O&#8217;Malley has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2015\/05\/with-tough-words-for-wall-st-omalley-launches-white-house-bid\/\">officially announced that he is running for President<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Former Maryland Governor Martin O\u2019Malley blasted social injustice and Wall Street excesses as he launched a White House bid on Saturday, casting himself as a younger, more liberal alternative to Democratic Party frontrunner Hillary Clinton.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cPowerful, wealthy special interests here at home have used our government to create, in our own country, an economy that is leaving a majority of our people behind,\u201d said O\u2019Malley, opening his 2016 presidential campaign with a rally at a waterfront park in downtown Baltimore.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">O\u2019Malley, who has aggressively courted his party\u2019s liberal wing, began his political career in Baltimore, first as a member of city council and then as mayor.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Decrying big banks as having been behind the financial crisis of 2008, O\u2019Malley singled out Goldman Sachs for particular criticism. He said Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein recently told his employees that \u201che\u2019d be just fine\u201d with either Republican Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton as president after the November 2016 election.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cWell, I\u2019ve got news for the bullies of Wall Street,\u201d O\u2019Malley said. \u201cThe presidency is not a crown to be passed back and forth by you between two royal families.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Hillary Clinton is the wife of former President Bill Clinton while Jeb Bush, who has not yet formally announced his candidacy but is already considered a leading contender among Republican hopefuls, is son and brother of former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W.
