{"id":183326,"date":"2014-12-24T21:47:00","date_gmt":"2014-12-25T02:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/12\/24\/well-its-a-start-4\/"},"modified":"2014-12-24T21:47:00","modified_gmt":"2014-12-25T02:47:00","slug":"well-its-a-start-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/12\/24\/well-its-a-start-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Well, It&#8217;s a Start"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Korea has <a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2014\/12\/24\/uber-indicted-south-korea\/\">indicted Uber CEO Travis Kalanick<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">South Korea has indicted the chief executive officer and local subsidiary of Uber Technologies Inc for violating a law governing public transport, becoming the latest jurisdiction to challenge the U.S. taxi service provider.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The Seoul Central District Prosecutors\u2019 Office issued the indictment against CEO Travis Kalanick and the firm\u2019s Korean unit for violating a law prohibiting individuals or firms without appropriate licenses from providing or facilitating transportation services, an Uber spokeswoman said.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The prosecutors\u2019 office declined to comment.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cUber Technologies respects the Korean legal system and will provide its full cooperation,\u201d the company said in a statement without detailing the charges brought against it.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Uber, through its apps, charges fees to play matchmaker for passengers and drivers \u2013 some registered as taxi drivers.
