{"id":184848,"date":"2012-01-05T19:43:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-06T00:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2012\/01\/05\/its-jobless-thursday-42\/"},"modified":"2012-01-05T19:43:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-06T00:43:00","slug":"its-jobless-thursday-42","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2012\/01\/05\/its-jobless-thursday-42\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Jobless Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pretty good news today, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2012-01-05\/first-time-unemployment-claims-in-u-s-dropped-15-000-last-week-to-372-000.html\">initial unemployment claims falling to 372K<\/a>, a drop of 15,000, from last weeks (adjusted upward) claims, with the 4-week moving average falling to the lowest number since July 2008 (!), 373,250, with continuing claims falling, though emergency claims rose slightly.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the ADP survey, (same link) indicates a 325,000 increase in private sector jobs, though I&#8217;ll wait for tomorrow&#8217;s NFP numbers for the official word.<\/p>\n<p>We also saw the ISM&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2012-01-03\/u-s-manufacturing-expands-at-faster-pace-as-ism-index-increases-to-53-9.html\">manufacturing index grew strongly<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/december-ism-services-rises-but-misses-forecast-2012-01-05\">non-manufacturing index rose modestly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, it&#8217;s pretty good news, I&#8217;m just wondering how much government jobs have hemorrhaged over the past month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pretty good news today, with initial unemployment claims falling to 372K, a drop of 15,000, from last weeks (adjusted upward) claims, with the 4-week moving average falling to the lowest number since July 2008 (!), 373,250, with continuing claims falling, though emergency claims rose slightly.
