{"id":185528,"date":"2014-10-23T19:25:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-24T00:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/10\/23\/obama-is-hoping-to-lose-the-senate\/"},"modified":"2014-10-23T19:25:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-24T00:25:00","slug":"obama-is-hoping-to-lose-the-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/10\/23\/obama-is-hoping-to-lose-the-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama is Hoping to Lose the Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Dan Froomkin is claiming that <a href=\"https:\/\/firstlook.org\/theintercept\/2014\/10\/23\/white-house-waiting-gop-senate-kill-feinsteins-torture-report\/\">Obama is running out the clock, because he is expecting the Democrats to lose the Senate<\/a>, and the Republicans will not vote to release the document:<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Continued White House foot-dragging on the declassification of a much-anticipated Senate torture report is raising concerns that the administration is holding out until Republicans take over the chamber and kill the report themselves. <\/p>\n<p>Senator Dianne Feinstein\u2019s intelligence committee sent a 480-page executive summary of its extensive report on the CIA\u2019s abuse of detainees to the White House for declassification more than six months ago. <\/p>\n<p>In August, the White House, working closely with the CIA, sent back redactions that Feinstein and other Senate Democrats said rendered the summary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/2014\/08\/04\/235402_obama-officials-senate-intelligence.html?sp=\/99\/100\/&amp;rh=1%20\">unintelligible and unsupported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Since then, the wrangling has continued behind closed doors, with projected release dates repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/firstlook.org\/theintercept\/2014\/09\/03\/senate-torture-report-2-4-weeks-says-feinstein\/%20\">falling by the wayside<\/a>.
