{"id":185529,"date":"2014-10-23T17:32:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-23T22:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/10\/23\/history-repeats-itself-first-as-tragedy-then-as-farce\/"},"modified":"2014-10-23T17:32:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-23T22:32:00","slug":"history-repeats-itself-first-as-tragedy-then-as-farce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/10\/23\/history-repeats-itself-first-as-tragedy-then-as-farce\/","title":{"rendered":"History Repeats Itself, First as Tragedy, then as Farce."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/Jm3nXeF.jpg\" style=\"cursor: pointer; float: right; margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px;\" \/>After having seized defeat from the jaws of victory in her race against Scott Brown for Senate in 2007, it looks like <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/dc\/martha-coakley-charlie-baker-massachusetts\">Martha Coakley is about to turn over the Governor&#8217;s Mansion to the Republicans<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">National Democrats are haunted by memories of Martha Coakley&#8217;s unforced stumbles and missteps in 2010, which cost them a U.S. Senate seat in one of the country&#8217;s bluest states.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Four laters later, the Massachusetts attorney general might be about to blow another major contest: The race to succeed Deval Patrick as governor.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">With two weeks left to go, a new poll by WBUR, which tracks the race weekly, found Coakley trailing for the first time against Republican Charlie Baker, a former health care CEO who served as secretary of finance and health under Gov.
