{"id":185545,"date":"2014-10-14T20:52:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-15T01:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/10\/14\/the-law-giveth-and-the-law-taken-away\/"},"modified":"2014-10-14T20:52:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-15T01:52:00","slug":"the-law-giveth-and-the-law-taken-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/10\/14\/the-law-giveth-and-the-law-taken-away\/","title":{"rendered":"The Law Giveth, and the Law Taken Away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An appellate court for the 5<sup>th<\/sup> Circuit has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/10\/15\/us\/texas-may-proceed-with-voter-id-law-appeals-court-finds.html\">stayed a lower court ruling striking down the Texas voter suppression law<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">A federal appeals court said Tuesday that Texas can enforce its strong voter identification requirements in the November election, temporarily blocking a lower court\u2019s ruling last week that the law was an unconstitutional effort to suppress the votes of blacks and Hispanics.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">The three-judge panel put off consideration of whether the lower-court decision, which condemned the law, should stand permanently.
