Just a few more deep breaths.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Almost there.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">So Corrections Corporation of America \u2014 the people who brought you<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/warehoused-and-forgotten-immigrants-trapped-our-shadow-private-prison-system\"> immigrant abuse in their private Texas prisons<\/a> \u2014 <b><span style=\"font-size: 100%; font-variant: small-caps;\">want to get into the animal shelter business<\/span><\/b>. In Citrus County Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\">IT\u2019S NOT ENOUGH that CCA is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/national\/fbi-takes-investigation-idaho-gladiator-school-article-1.1714357\">understaffing their people prisons<\/a> to cut corners, resulting in higher levels of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/03\/22\/lake-erie-prison-violence_n_2925151.html\">inmate violence<\/a>  and death. Which they then overbill for. And you can\u2019t FOIA how many  sexual assaults are happening there because as a private company they\u2019re  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensforethics.org\/press\/entry\/report-calls-for-foia-disclosure-from-private-prison-profiteers\">not responsive to FOIA requests<\/a>.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">They\u2019ve been sued for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prisonlegalnews.org\/news\/2011\/oct\/15\/ice-cca-settle-aclu-lawsuit-regarding-health-care-for-immigration-detainees\/\">insufficiently treating inmates who have health problems<\/a> because that costs money, then they pay academics from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/policy\/2014\/8\/6\/5968979\/corporations-are-using-dubious-research-to-take-over-prisons\">Temple University<\/a> to run \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/sites\/default\/files\/assets\/open_letter_to_cca_final.pdf\">astonishingly misleading<\/a>\u201d studies that say they \u201csave money\u201d because they don\u2019t take into account health care costs. Which they don\u2019t want to pay.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">They also hire people to work in prisons who have, you know, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prisonlegalnews.org\/news\/publications\/friedmann-cca-employees-charged-with-or-convicted-of-crimes-2004-2009\/\">murdered people<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The most depressing thing is that we are likely to see more outrage over how CCA would treat dogs than how it would treat human beings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Private prison company Corrections Corporation of America, looking to expand its business. intends to open an animal shelter: Sorry, give me a second.
