{"id":185895,"date":"2014-07-21T18:59:00","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T23:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/07\/21\/least-surprising-news-of-the-day-17\/"},"modified":"2014-07-21T18:59:00","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T23:59:00","slug":"least-surprising-news-of-the-day-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/07\/21\/least-surprising-news-of-the-day-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Least Surprising News of the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You know all those terrorism plots that the FBI uncovered?<\/p>\n<p>A study has revealed that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2014\/jul\/21\/government-agents-directly-involved-us-terror-plots-report\">the FBI manufactured most of the terror plots that it broke up<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Nearly all of the highest-profile domestic terrorism plots in the United States since 9\/11 featured the &#8220;direct involvement&#8221; of government agents or informants, a new report says.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Some of the controversial &#8220;sting&#8221; operations &#8220;were proposed or led by informants&#8221;, bordering on entrapment by law enforcement. Yet the courtroom obstacles to proving entrapment are significant, one of the reasons the stings persist.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The lengthy report, released on Monday by Human Rights Watch, raises questions about the US criminal justice system&#8217;s ability to respect civil rights and due process in post-9\/11 terrorism cases. It portrays a system that features not just the sting operations but secret evidence, anonymous juries, extensive pretrial detentions and convictions significantly removed from actual plots.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">&#8220;In some cases the FBI may have created terrorists out of law-abiding individuals by suggesting the idea of taking terrorist action or encouraging the target to act,&#8221; the report alleges.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Which ones weren&#8217;t?  Those ones:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The four high-profile domestic plots it found free of government involvement were the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing; Najibullah Zazi&#8217;s 2009 plot to bomb the New York subway; the attempted Times Square carbombing of 2010; and the 2002 shooting at Los Angeles International Airport&#8217;s El Al counter.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, while the FBI has been finding random idiots (read the case files, they are <b>really<\/b> stupid, while missing all of of the plots that <b>actually<\/b> went through to fruition. <\/p>\n<p>But they did catch <b>one<\/b> potential terrorist that they did not sponsor \u2026\u2026\u2026 They just missed the other \u00be of them.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an adequate batting average, <b><span style=\"font-size: 100%; font-variant: small-caps;\">for a pitcher<\/span><\/b>, I guess.<\/p>\n<p>You know, maybe the FBI should stop manufacturing terrorist plots, and start looking at <b>real<\/b> terror plots.<\/p>\n<p>And while they are at it, how about going after the f%$#ing banksters?&nbsp; They are still defrauding the rest of us.<\/p>\n<p>And while we are at it, how about a pony.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not gonna get that either.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You know all those terrorism plots that the FBI uncovered?
