{"id":186229,"date":"2014-03-29T19:39:00","date_gmt":"2014-03-30T00:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/03\/29\/this-comes-as-no-surprise\/"},"modified":"2014-03-29T19:39:00","modified_gmt":"2014-03-30T00:39:00","slug":"this-comes-as-no-surprise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/03\/29\/this-comes-as-no-surprise\/","title":{"rendered":"This Comes as No Surprise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maryland is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/maryland-set-to-abandon-troubled-health-exchangeadopt-connecticuts-system\/2014\/03\/28\/ef6a3a3e-b6d2-11e3-8cc3-d4bf596577eb_story.html\">dumping its healthcare exchange, and replacing it with Connecticut&#8217;s technology<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Maryland officials are set to replace the state\u2019s online health-insurance exchange with technology from Connecticut\u2019s insurance marketplace, according to two people familiar with the decision, an acknowledgment that a system that has cost at least $125.5 million is broken beyond repair.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The board of the Maryland exchange plans to vote on the change Tuesday, the day after the end of the first enrollment period for the state\u2019s residents under the 2010 Affordable Care Act.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Marylanders will be able to use the exchange even as it is being overhauled. The first enrollment period opened Oct. 1 and closes Monday for insurance coverage that kicks in this year.
