{"id":186331,"date":"2014-02-27T19:24:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-28T00:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/02\/27\/this-is-a-fabulous-f-you-to-the-homophobes\/"},"modified":"2014-02-27T19:24:00","modified_gmt":"2014-02-28T00:24:00","slug":"this-is-a-fabulous-f-you-to-the-homophobes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/02\/27\/this-is-a-fabulous-f-you-to-the-homophobes\/","title":{"rendered":"This is a Fabulous F%$# You to the Homophobes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The mayors of Boston and New York are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national\/boston-nyc-mayors-to-skip-st-pats-parades\/2014\/02\/27\/0c733f5a-9fd0-11e3-878c-65222df220eb_story.html\">boycotting their respective St. Patrick&#8217;s Day Parades because of the organizer&#8217;s homophobic policies<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Boston Mayor Martin Walsh is threatening to boycott the St. Patrick\u2019s Day parade unless organizers allow a group of gay military veterans to march, joining New York\u2019s mayor in protesting parade policies on gay groups.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Walsh, the son of Irish immigrants, said Thursday he\u2019s been trying to broker a deal with the city\u2019s parade organizers to allow a gay veterans group sponsored by MassEquality to march in this year\u2019s parade. He said allowing gay groups to participate is long overdue.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cIt\u2019s 2014 \u2014 it\u2019s far beyond the time where we should be even having this discussion because they\u2019re veterans who fought for this country just like any other veteran,\u201d Walsh said.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cI made a commitment during the campaign &#8230; that I would fight for equality and that\u2019s what this is all about.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">But parade planners appeared unwilling to budge.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Lead parade organizer Philip Wuschke Jr. said gay people are not prohibited from marching with other groups. But he said organizers do not want the parade to turn into a demonstration for a particular group.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cThe theme of the parade is St. Patrick\u2019s Day. It is not a sexually oriented parade,\u201d he said. \u201cAll we want to do is have a happy parade.
