{"id":186416,"date":"2014-01-26T20:52:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-27T01:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/01\/26\/pravda-on-the-potomac-blames-ukraine-for-enacting-u-s-like-laws\/"},"modified":"2014-01-26T20:52:00","modified_gmt":"2014-01-27T01:52:00","slug":"pravda-on-the-potomac-blames-ukraine-for-enacting-u-s-like-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/01\/26\/pravda-on-the-potomac-blames-ukraine-for-enacting-u-s-like-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"Pravda on the Potomac Blames Ukraine For Enacting U.S. Like Laws"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <i>Washington Post<\/i> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moonofalabama.org\/2014\/01\/wapo-blames-ukraine-for-enacting-us-like-laws.html\">criticizing the Yanukovych government in the Ukraine for laws that exist in their hometown without any comment<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The lunatics writing the <i>Washington Post<\/i> editorials want to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/the-west-must-break-ukraine-free-from-mr-putins-grasp\/2014\/01\/21\/400a30aa-82c8-11e3-bbe5-6a2a3141e3a9_story.html\">blame<\/a> the Ukraine (and the Russian president Putin) for its remarkable patient defense against the <a href=\"http:\/\/themoscownews.com\/international\/20131217\/192112581\/The-foreign-hand-behind-Ukraines-protests.html\">foreign supported<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/john-mccain-meets-oleh-tyahnybok-in-ukraine-2013-12\">neo-nazi<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rferl.org\/content\/ukraine-lenin-vandalized-statues-euromaidan\/25227472.html\">vandals<\/a> of the Svoboda party who try to storm and take over government buildings in Kiev.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">One paragraph especially shows their unmatched hypocrisy:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The repressive new restrictions, which criminalize such activity as <b>wearing helmets<\/b> and <b>setting up tents in public spaces<\/b>,  look a lot like the strategy the Russian ruler used to crush mass  demonstrations against his regime in 2011 and 2012. Mr. Yanukovych even  adopted the <b>regulation<\/b> Russia imposed <b>on nongovernment groups that receive foreign funding<\/b>  \u2014 a product of Mr. Putin\u2019s paranoid conviction that pro-democracy  movements in his country and elsewhere are the result of Western  government plots.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Wearing helmets and masks at demonstrations has been <a href=\"http:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2010\/11\/30\/d-c-council-unanimously-criminalize-wearing-masks-during-residential-protests-over-objections-of-civil-libertarians\/\">unanimously criminalized<\/a> by the D.C. Council in the Washington Post&#8217;s hometown. Tents set up in public spaces by the Occupy movement have been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/article\/does-the-first-amendment-protect-occupy-tent-cities\">outlawed<\/a>  and cleared by force all over the United States.
