{"id":186515,"date":"2014-01-01T00:12:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-01T05:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/01\/01\/so-not-a-surprise-36\/"},"modified":"2014-01-01T00:12:00","modified_gmt":"2014-01-01T05:12:00","slug":"so-not-a-surprise-36","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2014\/01\/01\/so-not-a-surprise-36\/","title":{"rendered":"So Not a Surprise\u2026\u2026\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The special master for the the Apple\/Amazon e-book is <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/news\/article_email\/SB10001424052702304361604579291042388608328-lMyQjAxMTAzMDMwMDEzNDAyWj\">claiming that Apple is obstructing his investigation<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">A feud between Apple Inc. and a lawyer appointed by a federal court judge to monitor the company&#8217;s e-book pricing reform became even more acrimonious Monday.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Michael Bromwich, the lawyer picked as Apple&#8217;s monitor, said in court documents filed Monday that Apple&#8217;s characterization of his team&#8217;s activities as a &#8220;roving investigation&#8221; in fact &#8220;bear no relation whatsoever to the activities we have attempted to conduct.&#8221;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">In an 11-page document accompanied by hundreds of pages of emails, Mr. Bromwich described repeated alleged efforts by Apple to block interviews between him and senior executives, as well as the company&#8217;s failure to turn over relevant documents.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">In December, Apple asked Manhattan U.S. District Judge Denise Cote to halt Mr. Bromwich&#8217;s oversight of the company pending the company&#8217;s appeal of Judge Cote&#8217;s antitrust judgment against the company.
