{"id":186633,"date":"2013-12-02T20:15:00","date_gmt":"2013-12-03T01:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/12\/02\/i-agree-with-the-shrill-one\/"},"modified":"2013-12-02T20:15:00","modified_gmt":"2013-12-03T01:15:00","slug":"i-agree-with-the-shrill-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/12\/02\/i-agree-with-the-shrill-one\/","title":{"rendered":"I Agree With the Shrill One"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Krugman&#8217;s latest OP\/ED <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/12\/02\/opinion\/krugman-better-pay-now.html\">calls for raising the minimum wage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s well thought out, but the limited space of the <i>Times<\/i> OP\/ED page has him leaving out an important point to make, that a low minimum wage is actually a taxpayer funded subsidy for bad employers, because many of these employees qualify for food stamps, welfare, Medicaid, or the EITC.<\/p>\n<p>Walmart and McDonalds actually have a policy to help their employees register for the public dole, because it is cheaper (for <b>them<\/b>) to dump it all off on the taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>Raising the minimum wage would tend to be stimulative, because poorer people spend a greater proportion of their income more quickly, and it would lower the deficit, by increasing tax revenues, and decreasing safety net programs.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the so-called &#8220;Deficit Hawks&#8221; don&#8217;t care, because they don&#8217;t really care about the deficit.&nbsp; They just want to punish the poors.<\/p>\n<p>Ratf%$#s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Krugman&#8217;s latest OP\/ED calls for raising the minimum wage.
