{"id":186675,"date":"2013-11-20T21:54:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-21T02:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/11\/20\/yes-arne-duncan-is-a-bigot\/"},"modified":"2013-11-20T21:54:00","modified_gmt":"2013-11-21T02:54:00","slug":"yes-arne-duncan-is-a-bigot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/11\/20\/yes-arne-duncan-is-a-bigot\/","title":{"rendered":"Yes, Arne Duncan is a Bigot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all are on some level, but his latest comment where he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/education\/duncan-tries-to-quell-uproar-over-common-core-comments\/2013\/11\/18\/b88376d8-5085-11e3-a7f0-b790929232e1_story.html\">complains that white suburban moms complaining about Common Core testing<\/a> shows that this attitude permeates his attitude on education:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Education Secretary Arne Duncan tried Monday to quell the outrage sparked by his comments that injected race and class into the debate about the Common Core academic standards taking root in classrooms across the country.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Duncan said Friday that he was fascinated by the fact that some opposition to the standards was coming from \u201cwhite suburban moms\u201d who fear that \u201ctheir child isn\u2019t as brilliant as they thought they were.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The remark lit up social-media sites, prompting pointed responses from bloggers, an open letter from a school superintendent, digital images of Duncan\u2019s official federal portrait with the word \u201cbigot\u201d emblazoned across it, and one congressman\u2019s call for Duncan\u2019s firing.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Duncan, whose office declined interview requests Monday, posted a statement late in the day on his agency\u2019s Web site.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cI used some clumsy phrasing that I regret \u2014 particularly because it distracted from an important conversation about how to better prepare all of America\u2019s students for success,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI want to encourage a difficult conversation and challenge the underlying assumption that when we talk about the need to improve our nation\u2019s schools, we are talking only about poor minority students in inner cities. This is simply not true. Research demonstrates that as a country, every demographic group has room for improvement.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The subtext here is profoundly racist, and I do not mean that it is &#8220;racist against whites&#8221;, as the clowns on the right are insisting.<\/p>\n<p>Please follow what was clearly his line of reasoning on this.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Basically he is saying, , &#8220;I understand how  poor\/minority\/otherwise disadvantaged people can oppose my policies,  after they are ill equipped (too stupid) to understand my brilliance,  but white suburban moms, they are my peeps.&nbsp; They are smart enough to  know better.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>Duncan is very much a  creature of the Wall Street entities who wish to create a for-profit  educational industrial complex, and he simply cannot imagine that other &#8220;people like him&#8221; disagree with his goals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Here is a clue:&nbsp; Most suburban moms are not overpaid Harvard educated creatures of the finance industry.&nbsp; They aren&#8217;t &#8220;people like you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the push-back  against NCLB and Race to the Top, is becoming increasingly stronger broader, and the opposition is moving up the socioeconomic pyramid.<\/p>\n<p>No Child Left Behind is a failed program,which is no surprise, since the Bush adminiatration was at the heart of creating this legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, I am compelled to make the repeat the <a href=\"http:\/\/d-squareddigest.blogspot.com\/2003_02_23_d-squareddigest_archive.html#89796111\">wisest thing that I&#8217;ve read this century<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #000099;\"><p>But  it does inspire in me the desire for a competition; can anyone,  particularly the rather more Bush-friendly recent arrivals to the board,  give me one single example of something with the following three  characteristics:<\/p>\n<p>1. It is a policy initiative of the current Bush administration<br \/>2. It was significant enough in scale that I&#8217;d have heard of it (at a pinch, that I should have heard of it)<br \/>3.
