{"id":186726,"date":"2013-11-05T22:42:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-06T03:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/11\/05\/a-couple-of-important-education-stories-from-new-york-state\/"},"modified":"2013-11-05T22:42:00","modified_gmt":"2013-11-06T03:42:00","slug":"a-couple-of-important-education-stories-from-new-york-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/11\/05\/a-couple-of-important-education-stories-from-new-york-state\/","title":{"rendered":"A Couple of Important Education Stories from New York State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I would note that the <i>New York Daily News<\/i> has looked at administrator salaries, and discovered that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/education\/top-16-nyc-charter-school-execs-out-earn-chancellor-dennis-walcott-article-1.1497717#ixzz2ji627U8o\">executives at 16 charter schools in the city are payed more than the New York City school chancellor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Like I said, looterz want to loot. <\/p>\n<p>More significant is that the Southold School District Superintendent on Long Island has <a href=\"http:\/\/suffolktimes.timesreview.com\/2013\/11\/43117\/southold-supe-calls-on-private-firm-to-remove-student-data\/\">demanded that all student data be removed from Bill Gates&#8217; latest attempt to monetize our children<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">After finding out that student data is being shared through the New York State Department of Education Department with a private third-party vendor, Southold School District Superintendent David Gamberg has formally requested to have its students\u2019 data removed from the controversial software system, citing privacy concerns.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Newsday has reported that although student data is currently kept on state computer systems, New York is moving toward contracting with nonprofit Atlanta data company inBloom, Inc. to \u201cstore student test scores, disciplinary records, disabilities and other vital subjects.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Mr. Gamberg fired off a letter to inBloom CEO Iwan Streichenberger on Monday, requesting to \u201copt-out\u201d from its data storing system, known as the Shared Learning Infrastructure. He has found a clause in the contract that allows districts to request their records be removed from the system, according to Mr. Gamberg\u2019s letter.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cIt is our position that this data contains sensitive and highly personal student information that we prefer not be subjected to the potential for breach, unintentional distribution, access, or abuse without parental consent.,\u201d Mr. Gamberg wrote.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gee, you think?<\/p>\n<p>I figured out that it was evil when I heard Bill Gates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I would note that the New York Daily News has looked at administrator salaries, and discovered that executives at 16 charter schools in the city are payed more than the New York City school chancellor.
