That phrase worries me:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Japan\u2019s government will lead \u201cemergency measures\u201d to tackle radioactive water spills at the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant, wresting control of the disaster recovery from the plant\u2019s heavily criticized operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve allowed Tokyo Electric to deal with the contaminated water situation on its own and they\u2019ve essentially turned it into a game of <b><span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\"><big>\u2018Whack-a-Mole\u2019<\/big><\/span><\/b>,\u201d Trade Minister Toshimitsu Motegi told reporters today at Fukushima. \u201cFrom now on, the government will move to the forefront.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\"> <\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Japan\u2019s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which is led by Motegi, \u201cis working to draw up, by some time in September, both emergency measures and more fundamental steps to eliminate the roots of the contaminated water problem, as well as measures to be carried out going forward,\u201d the Prime Minister\u2019s office said in a response to written questions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\">More than two years after the March 2011 nuclear disaster, Tokyo Electric\u2019s recovery effort has taken a turn for the worse. Japan\u2019s nuclear regulator last week questioned the company\u2019s ability to deal with the crisis, echoing comments earlier in the month by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are any number of phrases one does not want to hear in the context of nuclear accident, but &#8220;Whack-A-Mole&#8221; is <b>definitely<\/b> in the top ten.<\/p>\n<p>I think that I&#8217;m going to stick with fish from the Atlantic Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll use the ones from the Pacific as a night light.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whack-a mole.
