{"id":186940,"date":"2013-08-16T18:59:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-16T23:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/08\/16\/todays-economic-data-points\/"},"modified":"2013-08-16T18:59:00","modified_gmt":"2013-08-16T23:59:00","slug":"todays-economic-data-points","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/08\/16\/todays-economic-data-points\/","title":{"rendered":"Today&#8217;s Economic Data Points"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>US consumer confidence &#8220;unexpectedly: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2013-08-16\/u-s-consumer-confidence-falls-from-a-six-year-high.html\">fell in August<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/money\/la-fi-mo-economy-inflation-20130815,0,7668989.story\">hourly wages fell in July<\/a>, (Inflation hewed fairly close to the 2% desired by the Fed) I do not consider this too much of a surprise, particularly when juxtaposed with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2013-08-15\/philadelphia-fed-factory-index-fell-to-9-3-in-august-from-19-8.html\">fall in the Philly Fed index<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2013-08-15\/industrial-production-in-u-s-was-unchanged-in-july-fed-says.html\">overall industrial production being flat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is the definition of a recovery that I was previously unaware of.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US consumer confidence &#8220;unexpectedly: fell in August.
