{"id":187171,"date":"2013-05-28T19:53:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-29T00:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/05\/28\/ok-im-having-some-transportation-mishaps-today-and-so-is-all-of-baltimore\/"},"modified":"2013-05-28T19:53:00","modified_gmt":"2013-05-29T00:53:00","slug":"ok-im-having-some-transportation-mishaps-today-and-so-is-all-of-baltimore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2013\/05\/28\/ok-im-having-some-transportation-mishaps-today-and-so-is-all-of-baltimore\/","title":{"rendered":"OK, I&#8217;m Having Some Transportation Mishaps Today, and So is All of Baltimore"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; float: right; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 400px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"219\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D5ScYUYrnIo\" width=\"390\"><\/iframe><br \/><i>Bad day at the office<\/i><\/div>\n<p>I was driving down the road on I-795, and a red pickup truck a few car lengths ahead of me <b><span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">had its driver&#8217;s side front wheel come off<\/span><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>The truck continued down the road, trailing sparks from the break disk on the pavement.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the driver managed to control the truck, and get off onto the right shoulder.  <\/p>\n<p>The wheel continued to roll down the road, and careened off the center median Jersey barrier, and wheel bounced across three lanes, and also went off the right shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully the wheel did not hit anyone either, though it came within 10 feet of me and another driver.<\/p>\n<p>I then called 911, changed my underwear, and went off to a scheduled appointment with my chiropractor.<\/p>\n<p>As to the rest of Baltimore,&nbsp; there was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/breaking\/bal-train-derails-in-white-marsh-20130528,0,6849185.story\">train derailment and explosion in Rosedale<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">A freight train smacked into a truck carrying garbage and careened off the tracks in Rosedale Tuesday afternoon, triggering an explosion felt throughout the region and sending up a plume of black smoke visible for miles.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Authorities identified the driver of the truck as John Alban Jr., a retired Baltimore County firefighter who owns a waste collection company near the scene of the crash. The Essex man was listed in serious condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center Tuesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said. No other serious injuries were reported.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Officials shut down surrounding roads for several hours, slowing traffic through the region. The roads were reopened by Tuesday night, and a spokeswoman for the State Highway Administration said the morning commute should not be affected.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Michael \u201cVince\u201d Brown, the operations manager at a business near the crash site, was sitting in his office at about 2 p.m. Tuesday when it began to \u201crumble and shake.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cI screamed at my employees, \u2018Everyone get in their cars and get out of here now,\u2019\u201d Brown said. \u201cWe were on Lake Drive, and I asked if everyone was there, and as soon as I said that, the train blew up.
