That\u2019s the lowest level since January 2008. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Meanwhile, the four-week average of new claims, which smooths out weekly volatility, fell by 16,000 to 342,250. That\u2019s the smallest amount in six weeks.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The number of people already receiving benefits, known as continuing claims, rose by 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 3.02 million in the week ended April 20.
