{"id":187449,"date":"2011-06-24T20:08:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-25T01:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2011\/06\/24\/senators-call-for-occ-heads-removal\/"},"modified":"2011-06-24T20:08:00","modified_gmt":"2011-06-25T01:08:00","slug":"senators-call-for-occ-heads-removal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2011\/06\/24\/senators-call-for-occ-heads-removal\/","title":{"rendered":"Senators Call for OCC Head&#8217;s Removal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After pimping for the big banks for the past few years, Acting Comptroller of the Currency John Walsh has <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/washwire\/2011\/06\/22\/bank-regulator-comes-under-fire\/\">finally become so blatant that 3 Senate Dems called for his removal<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: blue;\"><p>On Tuesday, Acting Comptroller of the Currency John Walsh said regulators are in danger of going too far to curb risk-taking by big banks.<\/p>\n<p>Now, some Democratic senators are calling for his head.<\/p>\n<p>Three Senate Democrats \u2013 Jack Reed of Rhode Island, Carl Levin of Michigan and Jeff Merkley of Oregon \u2013 have publicly called for the White House to replace Mr. Walsh, a Republican, following his speech in London Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers were particularly rankled by Mr. Walsh\u2019s statements that bank capital requirements \u2013 the cushion banks hold against future losses \u2014 are already \u201cexceedingly high\u201d and that regulators should be cautious about much more they require the largest banks to hold, something foreign and U.S. regulators are now negotiating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Walsh\u2019s latest comments provide further evidence that he is not interested in leading an agency charged with ensuring the safety and soundness of our financial institutions,\u201d Mr. Reed said in a statement.
