{"id":187916,"date":"2011-01-27T19:26:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-28T00:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2011\/01\/27\/economics-update-8\/"},"modified":"2011-01-27T19:26:00","modified_gmt":"2011-01-28T00:26:00","slug":"economics-update-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2011\/01\/27\/economics-update-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not a good week for employment.<\/p>\n<p>Initial unemployment claims <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2011-01-27\/initial-jobless-claims-in-u-s-rose-51-000-last-week-to-454-000.html\"> rose by 51,000 to 454,000<\/a>, people are talking about snow doing this, but I&#8217;m inclined believe that the weather had less to do with this than the underlying weakness in the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The less volatile 4 week moving average rose by 15,750 to 428,750, and continuing claims rose by 94K to 3.99 million, and emergency claims fell by 98K to 4.62 million, though a lot of that last number dropping are people simply running out of benefits completely.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Reserve is still concerned about such thing, as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2011-01-26\/federal-open-market-committee-s-statement-on-monetary-policy-full-text.html\">latest Federal Open Market Committee statement<\/a>, which maintains its concerns as well as their quantitative easing (printing money) policy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not a good week for employment.
