{"id":188145,"date":"2010-12-01T23:35:00","date_gmt":"2010-12-02T04:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/12\/01\/economics-update-14\/"},"modified":"2010-12-01T23:35:00","modified_gmt":"2010-12-02T04:35:00","slug":"economics-update-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/12\/01\/economics-update-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We get the official numbers on Friday, but ADP&#8217;s private employment survey shows a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2010-12-01\/u-s-stocks-advance-most-in-three-months-as-economy-improves.html\">93,000 increase in private employment in November<\/a>, which is the best number in about 3 years, though this alone is still a bit smaller than the natural growth in the labor market.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the plus side, we have the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/fomc\/beigebook\/2010\/20101201\/default.htm\">Federal Reserve Board&#8217;s&nbsp; Beige Book showing mild expansion<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/wireStory?id=12288823\">construction spending rising in October<\/a>, and car sales for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/gm-reports-11-rise-in-nov-us-car-sales-2010-12-01\">GM<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/ford-nov-us-sales-jump-24-2010-12-01\">Ford<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/chrysler-us-november-sales-rise-17-to-74152-2010-12-01-1239340\">Chrysler<\/a> up significantly in November.<\/p>\n<p>On the so level, we have the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/ap\/financialnews\/D9JR3FFG0.htm\">Institute for Supply Management&#8217;s manufacturing index falling<\/a>, but still showing slow growth.<\/p>\n<p>On the minus side, we saw <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2010-12-01\/u-s-mba-mortgage-applications-index-plunged-16-5-last-week.html\">mortgage applications falling sharply last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We get the official numbers on Friday, but ADP&#8217;s private employment survey shows a 93,000 increase in private employment in November, which is the best number in about 3 years, though this alone is still a bit smaller than the natural growth in the labor market.
