{"id":188187,"date":"2010-11-18T18:30:00","date_gmt":"2010-11-18T23:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/11\/18\/economics-update-15\/"},"modified":"2010-11-18T18:30:00","modified_gmt":"2010-11-18T23:30:00","slug":"economics-update-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/11\/18\/economics-update-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s jobless Thursday, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-11-18\/jobless-claims-in-u-s-increased-less-than-estimated-to-439-000-last-week.html\">initial claims rose slightly last week<\/a>, up by 2000 to 439K, beating expectations, and remaining below the 450-485K range where the number has meandered much of this year, so this is good news.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the 4-week moving average dropped to a 2 year low of 443,000 and continuing claims fell fell by 43K to 4.3 million, though extended emergency claims rose by 12K to 4.93 million.<\/p>\n<p>Good news though, the extended claims number drops to 0 on November 30, thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2010\/11\/and-award-for-lame-losers-goes-to-you.html\">the ineptitude of Congressional Democrats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We also have Philadelphia Bank of the Federal Reserve, where its general economic index <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-11-18\/philadelphia-fed-factory-index-rises-to-22-5-more-than-quadruple-forecast.html\">exceeded forecasts by a factor of 4<\/a>, jumping to 22.5.<\/p>\n<p>On the down side, as always, is real estate, where <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mbaa.org\/NewsandMedia\/PressCenter\/74733.htm\">foreclosures are ramping up again<\/a>, as banks <del>tweak their fraud and corruption<\/del> fine tune their foreclosure programs and documentation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s jobless Thursday, and initial claims rose slightly last week, up by 2000 to 439K, beating expectations, and remaining below the 450-485K range where the number has meandered much of this year, so this is good news.
