{"id":188219,"date":"2010-11-09T20:47:00","date_gmt":"2010-11-10T01:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/11\/09\/economics-update-18\/"},"modified":"2010-11-09T20:47:00","modified_gmt":"2010-11-10T01:47:00","slug":"economics-update-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/11\/09\/economics-update-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Generally, this has not been a good day for economic news.<\/p>\n<p>We have seen a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSTRE6A831K20101110\">a spike in inventories<\/a>, they rose 1.5% in September, following a 1.2% increase in August, which indicates that recent increases in manufacturing activity, which were largely driven by businesses rebuilding inventories, may now be running to the wall of weak consumer demand.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that job <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-11-09\/job-openings-in-u-s-decreased-163-000-in-september-second-straight-drop.html\">openings fell again in September<\/a>, indicating that there is simply not a an opportunity for people to find their way back into the job market, might be a part of this, as would the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/11\/09\/bankruptcies-up_n_780822.html\">continued increase in personal bankruptcies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On the brighter side, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-11-09\/confidence-at-small-u-s-businesses-rises-to-highest-level-in-five-months.html\">National Federation of Independent Business\u2019s optimism index rose to a 5 month high<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Generally, this has not been a good day for economic news.
