{"id":188263,"date":"2010-10-31T08:35:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-31T13:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/10\/31\/the-nobility-gets-the-best-sh-to-smoke\/"},"modified":"2010-10-31T08:35:00","modified_gmt":"2010-10-31T13:35:00","slug":"the-nobility-gets-the-best-sh-to-smoke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/10\/31\/the-nobility-gets-the-best-sh-to-smoke\/","title":{"rendered":"The Nobility Gets the Best Sh%$ to Smoke"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Instead of going to the Stewart\/Colbert march for Sanity\/Fear, Sharon<sup>*<\/sup>, the kids, and I went to TNT, an SCA event held by our local group (the Barony of Brighthills).<\/p>\n<p>I got called up to receive a baronial award, the Order of Job, for selfless service to the Barony.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a wee bit confused:  I don&#8217;t recall doing much beyond cutting up some veggies, making the <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2007\/09\/culinary-crashing-and-burning.html\">oldest recorded recipe for chocolate for an event<\/a>, and washing a few dishes.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, it was our 16<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary, and we enjoyed ourselves.  We ate, we danced, we made glass beads using a torch.<\/p>\n<p>I got my wife some books as an anniversary gift.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s so nice having a wife who doesn&#8217;t want to be surprised by such things:  I just point her at the book seller, and she says, &#8220;Is this OK honey?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is much better than the expectation that I am a mind reader.<\/p>\n<p>A good time was had by all.<\/p>\n<p><sup>*<\/sup><span style=\"font-size:78%;\">Love of my life, light of the cosmos, <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps; font-weight: bold;\"><span>she who must be obeyed<\/span><\/span>, my wife.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Instead of going to the Stewart\/Colbert march for Sanity\/Fear, Sharon*, the kids, and I went to TNT, an SCA event held by our local group (the Barony of Brighthills).
