{"id":188461,"date":"2010-09-22T18:18:00","date_gmt":"2010-09-22T23:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/09\/22\/economics-real-estate-update\/"},"modified":"2010-09-22T18:18:00","modified_gmt":"2010-09-22T23:18:00","slug":"economics-real-estate-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/09\/22\/economics-real-estate-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics (Real Estate) Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; width: 400px; float: right; text-align: center;\">Click for full size<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/img404.imageshack.us\/img404\/6215\/cre1911839.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img404.imageshack.us\/img404\/6215\/cre1911839.png\" bordercolor=\"white\" border=\"0\" width=\"390\" \/><\/a> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Fasten your seat belts\u2026\u2026it&#8217;s going to be a bumpy night!<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Really, it&#8217;s a real estate news update today, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/39305922\/\">home prices dropping for the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> straight month in July<\/a>, as did <a href=\"http:\/\/ftalphaville.ft.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/20\/347561\/choppiness-continues-for-cre\/\">Moody&#8217;s commercial property price index<\/a>, and, despite historically low rates,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSTRE67N3B320100922\"> home loan applications fell again<\/a>, showing that the current housing market is weakening following the expiration of the tax credits.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, we have the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calculatedriskblog.com\/2010\/09\/aia-architecture-billings-index-shows.html\">American Institute of Architects\u2019 Architecture Billings Index continuing to show contraction<\/a>, which indicates that prospects in the next 6-12 months are not great either.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not all bad news though, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/\/id\/39285241\">August housing starts rose sharply over the previous month<\/a>, though as the official census figures show, this is just a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.census.gov\/const\/newresconst.pdf\">anemic 2% year over year gain<\/a>.
