{"id":188741,"date":"2010-08-04T20:35:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-05T01:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/08\/04\/economics-update-41\/"},"modified":"2010-08-04T20:35:00","modified_gmt":"2010-08-05T01:35:00","slug":"economics-update-41","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/08\/04\/economics-update-41\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, in the &#8220;why do they do this any more&#8221; department, we have the ADP private employment survey, which predates the official US DoL figures by all of 2 days, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/38553436\">saying that private payrolls will increase by a rather unimpressive 42 thousand<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The total figure will be much worse, of course, since the US Census is still shedding the temporary workers they hired for their 2010 enumeration.<\/p>\n<p>On the GDP front, it appears that the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/economics\/2010\/08\/03\/second-quarter-slowdown-likely-worse-than-first-thought\/\">inventory data which contributed to a large portion of recent GDP gains was wildly over optimistic<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Institute for Supply Management&#8217;s Non-Manufacturing index <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-08-04\/service-industries-in-u-s-expand-at-faster-rate-than-estimated-ism-says.html\">rose in July  rose to 54.3 from 53.8<\/a>, beating expectations,  in June, and mortgage applications, including purchase applications, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2010-08-04\/u-s-mba-mortgage-applications-index-increased-1-3-last-week.html\">rose again<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, in the &#8220;why do they do this any more&#8221; department, we have the ADP private employment survey, which predates the official US DoL figures by all of 2 days, saying that private payrolls will increase by a rather unimpressive 42 thousand.
