Cass Wheeler departing CEO of the American Heart Association:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>\u201cIf you peeled all that <span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">[outrageous supplemental pension and other provisions]<\/span> back, you\u2019d get to a base salary less than $600,000,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>OK, so your base is almost <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1\u00bd times that of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">President of the United States of America<\/span><\/span>, and you are doing charity work, and we are supposed to be OK with that.<\/p>\n<p>No, we aren&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>Neither should we be OK with hedge fund managers making over a billion dollars a year, but for non-profits, we are subsidizing the donations that pay their salary.<\/p>\n<p>Enough.<\/p>\n<p>I would note that the most egregious examples are in &#8220;not for profit&#8221; hospitals, which would imply to me that these institutions are &#8220;not for profit&#8221; as a fig leaf.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that lawmakers on both the state and federal level are starting to look at the salaries of senior executives for tax-exempt organizations.
