{"id":188960,"date":"2010-06-29T20:33:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-30T01:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/06\/29\/congressional-dems-opt-for-no-guts-and-no-glory\/"},"modified":"2010-06-29T20:33:00","modified_gmt":"2010-06-30T01:33:00","slug":"congressional-dems-opt-for-no-guts-and-no-glory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/06\/29\/congressional-dems-opt-for-no-guts-and-no-glory\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressional Dems Opt for No Guts And No Glory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congressional Democrats have just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSN2916439020100629\">caved to Republicans on a tax to make banks pay for their next bailout<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>Democrats on Tuesday planned to strip out a controversial tax from their landmark financial reform bill in order to win the swing votes needed to pass it through Congress.<\/p>\n<p>With crucial Republican moderates threatening to withdraw their support, Democrats were weighing alternative ways to fund the most sweeping rewrite of the Wall Street rulebook since the 1930s.<\/p>\n<p>Though a supposedly final version of the bill had been hammered out last week, Democrats in charge of the process called a fresh negotiating session, which got under way shortly after 5 p.m. EDT Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic lawmakers and aides said they planned to remove a $17.9 billion tax on large financial institutions.
