{"id":188966,"date":"2010-06-28T19:08:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-29T00:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/06\/28\/unsurprising-news-of-the-day-4\/"},"modified":"2010-06-28T19:08:00","modified_gmt":"2010-06-29T00:08:00","slug":"unsurprising-news-of-the-day-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/06\/28\/unsurprising-news-of-the-day-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Unsurprising News of the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>4 out of 9 Supreme Court justices believe that there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2010\/06\/28\/us\/politics\/AP-US-Supreme-Court-Campus-Christians.html?_r=2&amp;hp\">constitutional right to discrimination<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>An ideologically split Supreme Court ruled Monday that a law school can legally deny recognition to a Christian student group that won&#8217;t let gays join, with one justice saying that the First Amendment does not require a public university to validate or support the group&#8217;s &#8221;discriminatory practices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The court turned away an appeal from the Christian Legal Society, which sued to get funding and recognition from the University of California&#8217;s Hastings College of the Law.
