{"id":189070,"date":"2010-05-28T21:13:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-29T02:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/05\/28\/this-is-amazing\/"},"modified":"2010-05-28T21:13:00","modified_gmt":"2010-05-29T02:13:00","slug":"this-is-amazing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/05\/28\/this-is-amazing\/","title":{"rendered":"This is Amazing"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; width: 390px; float: right; text-align: center;\"><object width=\"384\" height=\"231\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/egNcMQ4CnAs&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/egNcMQ4CnAs&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"384\" height=\"231\"><\/embed><\/object><br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Amazing, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theravenfilm.com\/\">The Raven<\/a><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<p>10 Years ago, if you wanted to come even close to approaching something like this, you would have a team of hundereds, and a budget for a 6 minute short of something north of a million.<\/p>\n<p>If you go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/THERAVENFILM\">film-makers channel<\/a>, they have a &#8220;behind the scenes&#8221; video, and there are a remarkably small number of people doing this.<\/p>\n<p>I see a fairly large number of computer controlled cameras, including variants\/clones of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steadycam\">Stedicam<\/a>, so it&#8217;s more than just CGI.<\/p>\n<p>The ability to use computer controlled stabilized cameras means that you can setup and shoot scenes in an afternoon that would have taken weeks in the past.<\/p>\n<p>According to one source, it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvculture.com\/2010\/05\/24\/the-raven\/\">shot on a $5000 budget<\/a>, which would have been impossible with conventional, non computer controlled cameras.<\/p>\n<p>It reminds me of some of the work I do with castings, where tooling for a complex casting now costs less than $50K, while 15 years ago, in would cost something north of $\u00bd million.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, this is a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">great<\/span> short, but I would be very dubious of it being any more enjoyable as a full length movie.<\/p>\n<p>I think that adding character development and exposition would likely weaken the impact.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amazing, The Raven 10 Years ago, if you wanted to come even close to approaching something like this, you would have a team of hundereds, and a budget for a 6 minute short of something north of a million.
