{"id":189288,"date":"2010-04-23T11:14:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-23T16:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/04\/23\/greece-grabs-imf-eu-lifeline\/"},"modified":"2010-04-23T11:14:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-23T16:14:00","slug":"greece-grabs-imf-eu-lifeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/04\/23\/greece-grabs-imf-eu-lifeline\/","title":{"rendered":"Greece Grabs IMF\/EU Lifeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not surprising considering that the yields on their latest 2-year bond <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/\/id\/36712722\">spiked to 11.61%<\/a>, so they have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/04\/24\/business\/global\/24drachma.html?partner=rss&amp;emc=rss&amp;pagewanted=all\">asked for the activation of the financial rescue package<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>Describing his country\u2019s economy as \u201ca sinking ship,\u201d the Greek prime minister formally requested on Friday an international bailout, testing the solidarity of the European Union as never before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe drew up a plan, we took difficult and painful measures,\u201d Prime Minister George A.
