{"id":189810,"date":"2010-02-10T21:04:00","date_gmt":"2010-02-11T02:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/02\/10\/capitulation-on-healthcare\/"},"modified":"2010-02-10T21:04:00","modified_gmt":"2010-02-11T02:04:00","slug":"capitulation-on-healthcare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/02\/10\/capitulation-on-healthcare\/","title":{"rendered":"Capitulation On Healthcare?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, Obama has announced a televised summit with the Dems and the &#8216;Phants on healthcare, where <a href=\"http:\/\/theplumline.whorunsgov.com\/senate-republicans\/obama-hosting-republicans-for-summit-on-how-to-move-forward-on-health-care\/\">everything is on the table<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that he&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/politicalwire.com\/archives\/2010\/02\/06\/obama_rallies_democrats_on_health_care_reform.html\">pushing Dems to come on board for the idea<\/a>, which appears to me to continue to be, &#8220;Just put &#8216;Healthcare&#8217; on a piece of paper, and I&#8217;ll sign it.<\/p>\n<p>Well, the response from the Republicans was that he must <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americablog.com\/2010\/02\/gop-demands-obama-kill-house-and-senate.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Americablog+%28AMERICAblog%29\">kill the House and Senate bills and forswear reconciliation<\/a> before any such meeting, and the White House response to this, at least insofar is Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is concerned, is to say that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/blog\/2010\/02\/08\/gibbs-responds-boehner-cantor\">they are willing to talk without preconditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One interesting twist to this is that John Boehner is also objecting to it being televised, because, I think that he realizes that &#8220;no&#8221; is not photogenic.<\/p>\n<p>So, is this yet another misguided attempt by Obama to get Republicans to like him (my choice), or is it a bit of elventy dimensional chess where Obama gets Republicans to hang themselves on live TV?
