{"id":189835,"date":"2010-02-07T23:01:00","date_gmt":"2010-02-08T04:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/02\/07\/big-surprise-2\/"},"modified":"2010-02-07T23:01:00","modified_gmt":"2010-02-08T04:01:00","slug":"big-surprise-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/02\/07\/big-surprise-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Big Surprise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Liberian President, and mass murderer, Charles Taylor is saying that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/02\/04\/AR2010020404279.html\">he did mining deals with Pat Robertson in exchange for his lobbying Bush and His Evil Minions<sup>\u2122<\/sup> for support<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>Former Liberian president Charles Taylor, testifying in his war crimes trial in The Hague on Thursday, said that his government had awarded American televangelist Pat Robertson a gold mining concession in 1999 and that Robertson later offered to lobby the Bush administration on the government&#8217;s behalf.<\/p>\n<p>The revelations came in the midst of Taylor&#8217;s U.N.-backed trial on 11 counts of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during Sierra Leone&#8217;s 1990s civil war. Taylor is accused of directing a Sierra Leonean rebel group, the United Revolutionary Front, in a campaign aimed at securing access to the country&#8217;s diamond mines.
