{"id":190075,"date":"2010-01-09T23:08:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-10T04:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/01\/09\/harry-reid-dead-meat-on-the-table\/"},"modified":"2010-01-09T23:08:00","modified_gmt":"2010-01-10T04:08:00","slug":"harry-reid-dead-meat-on-the-table","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/01\/09\/harry-reid-dead-meat-on-the-table\/","title":{"rendered":"Harry Reid: Dead Meat on the Table"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Harry Reid has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/news\/reid-hits-new-low-in-poll-81060702.html\">hit a new low in the latest Las Vegas Review-Journal poll<\/a>, with a 52% having an unfavorable view of him, and 33% having a favorable view of him.<\/p>\n<p>As an incumbent, polling below 50% in terms of how people vote is a near death sentence, when your unfavorable rating is over 1\u00bd times your favorable rating, you are in Dick Cheney territory.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is not what he has done, but what he <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">hasn&#8217;t<\/span> done.<\/p>\n<p>Notwithstanding the arcane rules of the Senate, his constituents expect him to kick ass and get things done, and he hasn&#8217;t.  He&#8217;s been a wimp, though I think that this was largely at the request of the Obama administration, which wanted insurance company and pharma support for something called healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>So, now he&#8217;s screwed, and won&#8217;t be a Senator in February of 1011, just like Chris Dodd, who got shafted by Obama and His Evil Minions<sup>\u2122<\/sup> in almost <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">exactly<\/span> the same way.<\/p>\n<p>If the poll numbers weren&#8217;t bad enough, the merry band of at <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Politico<\/span> have released a book, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Game Change<\/span>, in which they <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.theatlantic.com\/2010\/01\/the_juiciest_revelations_in_game_change.php\">have the following quote from Harry Reid<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>He was wowed by Obama&#8217;s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama &#8212; a &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">light-skinned<\/span>&#8221; African American &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">with no Negro dialect<\/span>, unless he wanted to have one,&#8221; as he said privately.  Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama&#8217;s race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">emphasis mine<\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>So now we have a quote, an accurate one since <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.theatlantic.com\/2010\/01\/reid_apologizes_for_negro_remark.php\">Reid has apologized for it<\/a>, where he sounds like a country club racist.<\/p>\n<p>Reid needs to announce his retirement, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">tomorrow<\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harry Reid has hit a new low in the latest Las Vegas Review-Journal poll, with a 52% having an unfavorable view of him, and 33% having a favorable view of him.
