{"id":190158,"date":"2010-01-01T19:22:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-02T00:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/01\/01\/how-quaint\/"},"modified":"2010-01-01T19:22:00","modified_gmt":"2010-01-02T00:22:00","slug":"how-quaint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2010\/01\/01\/how-quaint\/","title":{"rendered":"How Quaint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 9<sup>th<\/sup> Court of Appeals has ruled that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/251\/story\/81381.html\">the police do not have the right to torture citizens they find inconvenient with Tasers<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> <span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\">A federal appeals court on Monday issued one of the most comprehensive rulings yet limiting police use of Tasers against low-level offenders who seem to pose little threat and may be mentally ill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\">In a case out of San Diego County, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals criticized an officer who, without warning, shot an emotionally troubled man with a Taser when he was<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> unarmed, yards away, and neither fleeing nor advancing on the officer<\/span>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">emphasis mine<\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure that some will find this an outrage.
