{"id":190209,"date":"2009-12-21T20:05:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-22T01:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/12\/21\/economics-update-113\/"},"modified":"2009-12-21T20:05:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-22T01:05:00","slug":"economics-update-113","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/12\/21\/economics-update-113\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More bad news in real estate, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=a5joQkpA3l2Y&amp;pos=6\">commercial real estate prices falling to a 7-year low<\/a>, and the latest figures on home prices <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loanperformance.com\/email\/hpi\/newsletter_hpi_1209.html\">showing a year over year decline of 7.8%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More generally, the Chicago Bank of the Federal Reserve&#8217;s economic index <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSN2123420120091221?type=marketsNews\">rose slightly in November<\/a>, from -1.02 in October (indicating growth below the historical trend) to -0.32 (indicating growth below, but closer to the historical trend).<\/p>\n<p>We also had good news in Japan, where <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/\/id\/34504473\">exports rose sharply<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In treasurys, bond prices fell, as <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2009\/12\/21\/markets\/bondcenter\/bonds\/index.htm\">investors moved into US equities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To move into those equities, foreign investors bought dollars, which <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2009\/12\/21\/markets\/dollar\/index.htm\">drove the dollar<\/a>, and the rising dollar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/34506493?__source=RSS*tag*&amp;par=RSS\">drove oil down<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More bad news in real estate, with commercial real estate prices falling to a 7-year low, and the latest figures on home prices showing a year over year decline of 7.8%.
