{"id":190516,"date":"2009-11-18T23:34:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-19T04:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/11\/18\/texas-may-have-outlawed-straight-marriage\/"},"modified":"2009-11-18T23:34:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-19T04:34:00","slug":"texas-may-have-outlawed-straight-marriage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/11\/18\/texas-may-have-outlawed-straight-marriage\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas May Have Outlawed Straight Marriage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img193.imageshack.us\/img193\/923\/87stupid15107088.gif\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" \/>Barbara Ann Radnofsky, Democratic candidate for Texas Attorney General, gave a speech in which she said that the 2005 amendment to the Texas State Constitution <a href=\"http:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/189\/story\/1770445.html?storylink=omni_popular\">bans all forms of marriage<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 102);\"><p>The amendment, approved by the Legislature and overwhelmingly ratified by voters, declares that &#8220;marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.&#8221; But the troublemaking phrase, as Radnofsky sees it, is Subsection B, which declares:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Architects of the amendment included the clause to ban same-sex civil unions and domestic partnerships.
