margin: 0px 10px; width: 410px; float: right; text-align: center;\">Click for full size<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/img195.imageshack.us\/img195\/9641\/foodstamps2961177.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img195.imageshack.us\/img195\/9641\/foodstamps2961177.png\" bordercolor=\"white\" border=\"0\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/img8.imageshack.us\/img8\/3105\/longtermunemployement80.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img8.imageshack.us\/img8\/3105\/longtermunemployement80.png\" bordercolor=\"white\" border=\"0\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/img9.imageshack.us\/img9\/1514\/foreclosures8014212.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img9.imageshack.us\/img9\/1514\/foreclosures8014212.png\" bordercolor=\"white\" border=\"0\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><br \/>The Misery Index Continues to Rise<br \/>H\/t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mybudget360.com\/bankruptcy-filings-to-match-divorce-filings-in-2009-15-million-358-million-americans-on-food-stamps-11-percent-of-the-population-the-5-indicators-of-the-misery-index\/\">My Budget 360<\/a><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Today will be a slow news day, because everyone is waiting on the Federal Reserve Open Market Committee&#8217;s (FOMC) statement tomorrow afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>I think that the big news is that Warren Buffet&#8217;s Berkshire Hathaway has <a href=\"http:\/\/dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/11\/03\/berkshire-to-buy-rest-of-burlington-northern-for-44-billion\/?partner=rss&amp;emc=rss\">bought the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad<\/a>, betting on recovery while <a href=\"http:\/\/247wallst.com\/2009\/11\/03\/as-buffett-dumps-moodys-brk-a-mco\/\">further reducing his stake in Moody&#8217;s Investors Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Warren Buffet does not invest in things that he cannot get his head around, which is why he missed the dot com implosion, he couldn&#8217;t figure out how they could make money.<\/p>\n<p>So now, he is dumping a financial company for rail, which implies to me that he sees a lot more trouble ahead for the banking industry, even as the economy recovers, and the demand for goods and services increases.<\/p>\n<p>This is further reinforced by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/businessNews\/idUSTRE5A231X20091103?feedType=RSS&amp;feedName=businessNews\">September new factory orders rising by 0.9%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also the numbers for automobile sales were remarkably good, considering the &#8220;cash for clunkers&#8221; sales hangover.<\/p>\n<p>There was strong sales growth for and strong October sales numbers from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/fords-new-models-lead-to-stronger-october-sales-2009-11-03\">Ford, GM<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/feeds\/ap\/2009\/11\/03\/business-us-nissan-sales_7080534.html\">Nissan<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=awnOyZyzP4yc&amp;pos=5\">Hyundai and Kia<\/a>, while <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2009\/11\/03\/news\/companies\/autosales\/?postversion=2009110314\">sales for Toyota and Honda were basically flat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 0px 10px; width: 205px; float: right; text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img188.imageshack.us\/img188\/2969\/minilarson037790049.jpg\" \/><br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Bummer of a birth mark, Chrysler<\/span><\/div>\n<p>As for Chrysler, well&#8230;..&#8221;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/chrysler-us-october-sales-fall-30-2009-11-03\">Bummer of a birthmark, Hal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>BTW, if you&#8217;ve been reading the financial press, you may not that they are touting a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/companyNewsAndPR\/idUSN0244130720091103\">4.4% increase in the MIT Center for Real Estate&#8217;s transaction-based index (TBI) index for the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> quarter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One should note, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calculatedriskblog.com\/2009\/11\/commercial-real-estate-price-indexes.html\">Calculated Risk does<\/a>, that this is not the But this isn&#8217;t the monthly Moody\u2019s\/REAL Commercial Property Price Index (CPPI), which actually showed a drop.<\/p>\n<p>This is an index of, &#8220;commercial properties sold by major institutional investors,&#8221; and these institutional investors are likely avoiding the distressed properties like the plague.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that things are still bad, with <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748703932904574511733633191024.html?mod=rss_whats_news_us\">business bankruptcy filings rising 7% in October<\/a>, a change from the drops in filings in August and September.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2009\/11\/03\/markets\/gold\/index.htm?postversion=2009110315\">Gold surges to an all-time high &#8211; Nov. 3, 2009<\/a>: &#8220;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a bonus for the gold bugs, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/businessNews\/idUSTRE56T3EA20091103?feedType=RSS&amp;feedName=businessNews\">gold hit a new high<\/a>, $1,084.90\/oz (troy) after the Reserve Bank of India announced that it was bought 200 metric tonnes of gold from the IMF.  (What&#8217;s up with this?
