{"id":190716,"date":"2009-10-31T19:29:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-01T00:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/10\/31\/what-atrios-said-4\/"},"modified":"2009-10-31T19:29:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-01T00:29:00","slug":"what-atrios-said-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/10\/31\/what-atrios-said-4\/","title":{"rendered":"What Atrios Said"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eschatonblog.com\/2009\/10\/bipartisan-commissions.html\">Atrios notes<\/a>, the idea that some &#8220;moderate Democrats&#8221; are pushing for, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/11\/01\/us\/politics\/01deficit.html\">Bipartisan commission to propose spending cuts and tax hikes<\/a>, is really, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">really, <span style=\"font-size:130%;\">Really<\/span><\/span>, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;\" >REALLY<\/span> stupid.<\/p>\n<p>First, there are no Republicans on the national level who will support <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">any<\/span> new taxes, and second, look at the &#8220;Democrats&#8221; who are supporting this. <\/p>\n<p>According to the article, a &#8220;group of 10 senators \u2014 nine moderate Democrats and an independent,&#8221; so and so the article definitively fingers the following people:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senator Evan Bayh<\/li>\n<li>Senator Kent Conrad<\/li>\n<li>Senator Joe Lieberman (Not explicitly named in the article, but note the quote, it sure as hell ain&#8217;t Bernie Sanders.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MY comment, if you are serious about cutting the deficit, place a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tobin_tax\">Tobin Tax<\/a> on financial transactions, you raise money, reduce the deficit, reduce speculation for its own sake, and punish the banks.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a win-win-win-win scenario.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Atrios notes, the idea that some &#8220;moderate Democrats&#8221; are pushing for, a Bipartisan commission to propose spending cuts and tax hikes, is really, really, Really, REALLY stupid.
