{"id":191490,"date":"2009-08-12T15:55:00","date_gmt":"2009-08-12T20:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/08\/12\/u-s-attorney-update\/"},"modified":"2009-08-12T15:55:00","modified_gmt":"2009-08-12T20:55:00","slug":"u-s-attorney-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/08\/12\/u-s-attorney-update\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Attorney Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Letter to Karl Rove<a href=\"http:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/kevin-drum\/2009\/08\/us-attorney-finale\">complaining that US Attorney David Iglesias was &#8220;missing in action&#8221; during the 2002 and 2004 elections<\/a> (see pic below), and H<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2009\/08\/11\/AR2009081102104.html\">arriet Miers fingers Karl Rove<\/a> calling for his dismissal for explicitly political reasons:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>The House panel focused most of its attention on Iglesias, a rising star in New Mexico who came to displease his political patrons. Miers told investigators that Rove called her in September 2006, &#8220;agitated&#8221; about the slow pace of public corruption cases against Democrats and weak efforts to pursue voter-fraud cases in the state. In the call, Miers said, Rove described Iglesias as a &#8220;serious problem&#8221; and said he wanted &#8220;something done&#8221; about it. Miers testified that she called then-Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty to pass along the concerns.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img25.imageshack.us\/img25\/9468\/blogroveiglesias7285055.jpg\" width=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But when you see clear evidence of corruption and a deliberate attempt to undermine the role of the Department of Justice as a non-political enforcer of laws, what do we get from Obama and Holder?  Crickets.<\/p>\n<p>We need a special prosecutor.
