The 1<sup>st<\/sup> is that <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2009\/08\/11\/news\/economy\/productivity.reut\/index.htm\">non-farm productivity rose at a 6.4% annual rate<\/a>, the highest rate since 2003, the 2<sup><span>nd<\/span><\/sup> is that <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2009\/08\/11\/news\/economy\/wholesale_inventories.reut\/index.htm?postversion=2009081111\">wholesale inventories fell at more than twice the predicted rate<\/a>, and the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> is that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hotelnewsnow.com\/Articles.aspx?ArticleId=1687\">Hotel Industry\u2019s Pulse index (HIP) rose in July<\/a>, for the first time in 19 months.<\/p>\n<p>Both of these numbers are generally positive, though the numbers for productivity include a reduction in hours worked and worker pay, and a reduction in inventories is only a good thing to the degree to which we get to the end of that process.<\/p>\n<p>On the less encouraging side of the spectrum, we have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601110&amp;sid=af.sxPlLLGqw\">demand for US Treasuries increasing<\/a>, which indicates a return to risk aversion, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ritholtz.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/baltic-dry-index-falls-for-9th-straight-day\/\">Baltic Dry Index has fallen for a 9<sup><span>th<\/span><\/sup> straight day<\/a>, which indicates a big drop in international trade.<\/p>\n<p>In energy, we have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601110&amp;sid=aZzSrBG42Xtw\">oil falling below $70\/bbl<\/a>, and in currency, the <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2009\/08\/11\/markets\/dollar.reut\/index.htm\">dollar fell<\/a>, particularly against the Yen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have some pieces of good news.
