{"id":191656,"date":"2009-07-13T18:47:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-13T23:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/07\/13\/democrats-push-back-on-needle-exchange\/"},"modified":"2009-07-13T18:47:00","modified_gmt":"2009-07-13T23:47:00","slug":"democrats-push-back-on-needle-exchange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/07\/13\/democrats-push-back-on-needle-exchange\/","title":{"rendered":"Democrats Push Back on Needle Exchange"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it looks like Barack Obama is going to be getting some well deserved push-back on his proposal to keep the ban on needle exchange programs.<\/p>\n<p>Obama put it in his budget, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/50433\/its-dems-v-obama-on-needle-exchange\">House Appropriations Committee pulled it from their budget<\/a>, and it&#8217;s what comes out of the Congress at the end of the day that makes law here.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the background on Barack Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2009\/07\/obama-is-dog-whistle-gay-bashing.html\">going out of his way to reverse a campaign promise<\/a>, and I still think that this is a deliberate attempt to enrage the gay community in order to score points with right wingers.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, Obama also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2009\/feb\/03\/drugs-policy-vienna-eu\">opposing sane harm reduction policies with regard to drugs in the context of international diplomacy<\/a>, so maybe he actually buys into this whole &#8220;War on Drugs&#8221; charade, so maybe he is just worried of being demagogued on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure which state of mind is worse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it looks like Barack Obama is going to be getting some well deserved push-back on his proposal to keep the ban on needle exchange programs.
