{"id":191663,"date":"2009-07-11T08:39:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-11T13:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/07\/11\/is-the-pentagon-actively-working-to-sabotage-indian-gripen-bid\/"},"modified":"2009-07-11T08:39:00","modified_gmt":"2009-07-11T13:39:00","slug":"is-the-pentagon-actively-working-to-sabotage-indian-gripen-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/07\/11\/is-the-pentagon-actively-working-to-sabotage-indian-gripen-bid\/","title":{"rendered":"Is the Pentagon Actively Working to Sabotage Indian Gripen Bid?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img32.imageshack.us\/img32\/2829\/getasset.jpg\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" width=\"300\" \/>The story is that SAAB went to Israel Aerospace Industries (<span>IAI<\/span>) looking for a partnership on on developing its <span>Gripen<\/span> <span>NG<\/span>, and that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jpost.com\/servlet\/Satellite?cid=1246443717576&amp;pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull\">US Government forced <span>IAI<\/span> to pull out<\/a>, claiming, &#8220;That Western technology in Israeli hands would make its way to the Indians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span>IAI<\/span> was supposed to develop, &#8220;radar, <span>communications<\/span> and electronic-warfare &#8211; for the plane.&#8221; (See also <a href=\"http:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/India\/US-armtwists-Israeli-firm-on-IAF-deal\/articleshow\/4741294.cms\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Flight <span>International<\/span><\/span>, SAAB has stated that, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flightglobal.com\/articles\/2009\/07\/06\/329271\/iai-forced-to-withdraw-support-for-gripens-indian-bid.html\">Israel was one of several options<\/a>&#8220;, for the radar, though a <a href=\"http:\/\/defensenews.com\/story.php?i=4178191&amp;c=EUR&amp;s=AIR\">report by <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Defense News<\/span><\/a> <span>categorically<\/span> denies the report:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>&#8220;Our <span>AESA<\/span> focus is on our partnership with <span>Selex<\/span> Galileo, which we reached in March,&#8221; a Saab spokesman said. &#8220;Together, we will jointly develop a new radar based on <span>Selex&#8217;s<\/span> <span>AESA<\/span> Vixen and PS-05\/A <span>technologies<\/span>.
