Here is the <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com\/talk\/blogs\/thejoshuablog\/2009\/05\/ny-times-maureen-dowd-plagiari.php\">blog that outed her<\/a>, here is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/05\/17\/opinion\/17dowd.html?_r=1\">the Op-Ed in question<\/a>, along with the correction:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Correction: May 18, 2009<br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Maureen Dowd\u2019s column on Sunday, about torture, failed to attribute a paragraph about the timeline for prisoner abuse to Josh Marshall\u2019s blog at Talking Points Memo<\/span>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here is<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/2009\/05\/bubbling.php\">Josh Marshall&#8217;s original post<\/a>, and the pertinent excerpt:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>More and more the timeline is raising the question of why, if the torture was to prevent terrorist attacks, it seemed to happen mainly during the period when <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">we were<\/span> looking for what was essentially political information to justify the invasion of Iraq.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> And her version in the original:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>More and more the timeline is raising the question of why, if the torture was to prevent terrorist attacks, it seemed to happen mainly during the period when <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">the Bush crowd was<\/span> looking for what was essentially political information to justify the invasion of Iraq.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Difference are bolded.<\/p>\n<p>Her claim is that she heard it from a friend, and she really liked it, so she dropped it in, but that story stinks.  The charitable explanation is that she got an email, liked the line, copied it in for a draft, went to get a cup of coffee, and forgot to cite.<\/p>\n<p>The obvious question, is really where does she get her ideas from in the first place, and is this a single transgression, or a part of a pattern?<\/p>\n<p>Since I don&#8217;t like her stuff, I&#8217;m not going to comb through it to check&#8230;.It&#8217;s too painful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The entire thing is interesting.
