{"id":192914,"date":"2009-02-05T20:26:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-06T01:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/02\/05\/zimbabwe-passes-power-sharing-law\/"},"modified":"2009-02-05T20:26:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-06T01:26:00","slug":"zimbabwe-passes-power-sharing-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/02\/05\/zimbabwe-passes-power-sharing-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe Passes Power Sharing Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well the Zimbabwean parliament <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/africa\/7872704.stm\">finally passed the constitutional amendments to enable a power-sharing government<\/a>, though cabinet positions are still not set, and a number of MDC and human rights activists remain detained.<\/p>\n<p>Governments in the west have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/africaCrisis\/idUSL3606495\">softened their rhetoric<\/a>, for a while, at least, but are maintaining the sanctions against Mugabe and senior ZANU-PF officials.<\/p>\n<p>As to whether things are going to get better, the fact that Robert Mugabe&#8217;s wife <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/africaandindianocean\/zimbabwe\/4447091\/Robert-Mugabes-wife-Grace-seizes-Zimbabwe-farm.html\">just seized a farm<\/a>, from a <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">judge on Zimbzbwe&#8217;s high court<\/span>&#8230;.Damn&#8230;.It takes stones to steal from a judge in broad daylight, so I&#8217;m not expecting things to turn better at any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/afp\/20090204\/hl_afp\/zimbabwewhohealthcholeratoll\">Cholera is continuing it&#8217;s Zimbabwe concert tour<\/a>, with the WHO saying that cases have broken 65,000.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure if I am a realist, or a pessimist, but I don&#8217;t think that things are going to turn out well for the people of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well the Zimbabwean parliament finally passed the constitutional amendments to enable a power-sharing government, though cabinet positions are still not set, and a number of MDC and human rights activists remain detained.
