{"id":193220,"date":"2009-01-08T19:36:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-09T00:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/01\/08\/things-i-learned-from-david-frum\/"},"modified":"2009-01-08T19:36:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-09T00:36:00","slug":"things-i-learned-from-david-frum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2009\/01\/08\/things-i-learned-from-david-frum\/","title":{"rendered":"Things I Learned from David Frum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Basically it&#8217;s that if he makes a statement, he is at best being deceptive, and worst completely inaccurate, note my <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/david-frum-and-facts-have-only-passing.html\">little complaint letter to Marketplace<\/a> about his inaccuracies of discussions regarding European fighter aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>So, I heard him on <a href=\"http:\/\/marketplace.org\/\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Marketplace<\/span><\/a> condemning Obama&#8217;s suggestion of improved unemployment benefits, and thought, &#8220;If he hates the idea it must be a good one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So a trip to Google News, and then to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/04\/us\/politics\/04stimulus.html?_r=2&amp;th&amp;emc=th\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">New York Times<\/span><\/a> for the details on the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>I was right, it&#8217;s pretty good:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Extended unemployment insurance.<\/li>\n<li>Subsidies for employers to help laid off employees with health insurance via COBRA.<\/li>\n<li>Medicaid for laid off employees without health plans, and hence COBRA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are all good things.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Basically it&#8217;s that if he makes a statement, he is at best being deceptive, and worst completely inaccurate, note my little complaint letter to Marketplace about his inaccuracies of discussions regarding European fighter aircraft.
