{"id":193277,"date":"2008-12-31T18:29:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-31T23:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/12\/31\/so-my-prediction-on-the-ukraine-and-the-crimea\/"},"modified":"2008-12-31T18:29:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-31T23:29:00","slug":"so-my-prediction-on-the-ukraine-and-the-crimea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/12\/31\/so-my-prediction-on-the-ukraine-and-the-crimea\/","title":{"rendered":"So My Prediction on the Ukraine and the Crimea&#8230;.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, I make a prediction that <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/will-russia-buy-crimea-from-ukraine.html\">Russia will use the Ukrainian gas debt to get the Crimea<\/a>, and it looks like I&#8217;ve been proved wrong in less than a week&#8230;..Narf!<\/p>\n<p>It appears that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601110&amp;sid=a_dwVIgJ3_Zg\">Ukraine has agreed to pay their old gas bill<\/a>, and a new deal for 2009 is ready&#8230;.Only <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/ELECTU\/idUSLU15776220081230\">both sides are disputing whether Ukraine has actually paid the debt<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>Russia has said it will turn off the taps to Ukraine if it<br \/>does not receive $2 billion in arrears and conclude a new supply<br \/>deal, a threat that has alarmed European states which receive<br \/>their Russian gas via pipelines passing through Ukraine.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>OK, maybe I haven&#8217;t been proved wrong yet&#8230;..Narf!<\/p>\n<p>Gazprom is threatening to <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB123072569557845391.html?mod=rss_whats_news_us\">cut off gas to the Ukraine<\/a>, it appears that the dispute is now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/12\/31\/business\/worldbusiness\/31gas.html?ref=worldbusiness\">their late fees<\/a>, and not the actual gas themselves.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m wondering when Russia will construct a pipeline through Belarus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, I make a prediction that Russia will use the Ukrainian gas debt to get the Crimea, and it looks like I&#8217;ve been proved wrong in less than a week&#8230;..Narf!
